Welcome to the website for Louisiana’s Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference. Each year, the most outstanding sophomores from high schools across Louisiana gather to share a weekend of learning they will never forget.

Founded in 1958, HOBY’s mission is to provide lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential. HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students.

HOBY programs provide youth selected by their schools to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. HOBY also provides adults with opportunities to make a significant impact on the lives of youth by volunteering.

Known as HOBY’s flagship program, the Leadership Seminar is designed for high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their home, schools, workplace and community. The high level of energy, encouragement and motivation as well as the interaction with peers, panelists and volunteers are important elements in nurturing the students’ future leadership roles.

In addition, students participate in hands-on leadership activities and meet state leaders in such as areas as business, government, education, media and the non-profit sector. There are approximately 70 Leadership Seminars held each spring throughout the United States. Local volunteer committees plan, organize and run these three-or four-day seminars, and also raise the funds to pay for program expenses. Each September, every accredited public, private and charter high school in the country is invited to select and register an outstanding sophomore as their representative to their local state seminar. Currently, nearly 9,000 sophomores, representing as many high schools nationwide, attend HOBY Leadership Seminars annually. Participants need not have attended a CLeW to attend a Leadership Seminar.

Due to the support of many generous individuals, organizations and corporations, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) has continued to grow and deliver quality youth leadership programs to high school students worldwide. Each year, we are excited to serve an even greater number of students, giving each one the opportunity to develop confidence and personal leadership skills, as well as the passion and commitment to use his/her leadership in service to others.

HOBY alumni, numbering more than 355,000 since 1958, use the enthusiasm and knowledge they gain from their HOBY experience to make a difference in their communities. HOBY alumni go on to lead local service groups, 
start non-profit organizations, and direct major social-minded businesses. Your support means a great 
deal to these future leaders who are already making a difference every day. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit 
and non-government agency, HOBY relies on the generosity of its donors to keep its inspiring and 
effective programs going strong.
